USGBC Special Event - Hard Hat Tour

The US Green Building Council (USGBC) LA Chapter will be holding a special event Wednesday June 17 at the Lofts @ Cherokee Studios. It will be a Hard Hat tour and exploratory session on the Lofts @ Cherokee Studios, the first LEED Platinum building in Hollywood.
The Walls Are Closing

All sound proofing, insulating, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installation and inspections are complete. The walls are now closing up with double offset drywall and resilent channels.
Bruce Robb: Music Studios to Live/Work Lofts

Throughout the development process, Cherokee Studios founder and producer Bruce Robb has led Rethink’s design team through on-site visits of Cherokee Lofts. The wood framing delineating the 12 condominiums has been enough for Robb to envision the production potential of Cherokee’s residential units. Robb has adroitly maneuvered construction and building design with an eye to provide future residents live/work units with the acoustical support needed for private recording spaces within each unit. Our development team actively participates in shaping the future of Hollywood through Cherokee’s building design and fidelity to native culture. Construction continues on Cherokee Lofts and the proof is in the pour – 13.7 tons of concrete and 13.1 tons of rebar to date including 4,110 pounds of fly ash diverted from waste and 24,890 pounds of recycled steel. In fact, recycled content constitutes both the structural material and our mission: to creatively work with available local materials to calculate the greatest benefit of placemaking to yield the least cost to the environment. Cherokee Goes Up Instead of Down

Once we finished removing and prepping (see Going Green as It Goes Deeper post) it was time to start putting something back into the project and building. Furthermore, if we are going to put material back in the ground to build this project it better be as green as possible. Read more…
