aiafirmawardOn June 10th, 2010 Pugh + Scarpa was officially presented the AIA Firm Award: the highest honor bestowed by the American Institute of Architects. Below is the video the AIA played to introduce the firm and the award. It is clear from the video why they were given the award and why the experience of being at the Lofts at Cherokee Studios is just a bit different and a bit better than the rest.

slowhome1The community at the Slow Home Network recently awarded the Lofts at Cherokee Studios for the “Best Apartment/ Loft Design” in Los Angeles after reviewing over 120 lofts in the area.   Check out the video that the Slow Home Network posted in praise of Cherokee.

Mouse House Goes Green
REthink has been selected to perform the green building evaluation on the Walt Disney Companies $500 million new production studio located near Santa Clarita in Northern LA County.  The proposed Disney/ABC Studios at the Ranch would occupy a corner of the Golden Oak Ranch, a sprawling 890-acre parcel off California 14 that has been the setting of such classic films as "Old Yeller." Plans call for 12 soundstages, production offices, a commissary and other facilities that could be used for film, television, commercial and new media projects.

US Army’s MEPS Center to Achieive LEED Gold Certification
The US Army's Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) located in El Segundo, California is responsible for all soldier entrance and processing into the Army.   REthink performed the green building design and LEED certification on MEPS's 32,000 square foot facility

USGBC Special Event - Hard Hat Tour
The US Green Building Council (USGBC) LA Chapter will be holding a special event Wednesday June 17 at the Lofts @ Cherokee Studios.  It will be a Hard Hat tour and exploratory session on the Lofts @ Cherokee Studios, the first LEED Platinum building in Hollywood.

The Walls Are Closing
All sound proofing, insulating, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installation and inspections are complete.  The walls are now closing up with double offset drywall and resilent channels.

Bruce Robb: Music Studios to Live/Work Lofts

Throughout the development process, Cherokee Studios founder and producer Bruce Robb has led Rethink’s design team through on-site visits of Cherokee Lofts. The wood framing delineating the 12 condominiums has been enough for Robb to envision the production potential of Cherokee’s residential units. Robb has adroitly maneuvered construction and building design with an eye to provide future residents live/work units with the acoustical support needed for private recording spaces within each unit.  Read more...

Back to Grade
Construction continues on Cherokee Lofts and the proof is in the pour – 13.7 tons of concrete and 13.1 tons of rebar to date including 4,110 pounds of fly ash diverted from waste and 24,890 pounds of recycled steel.  In fact, recycled content constitutes both the structural material and our mission: to creatively work with available local materials to calculate the greatest benefit of placemaking to yield the least cost to the environment.  Read more...
